At the end of the Second World War, Robert Guerin, a wine-grower in Chenac sur Gironde, started focusing on the production of Pineau des Charentes. He was one of the pioneers who decided to take an interest in this ancient product (1589), even though its AOC ranking was relatively new (1945).
In 1954, after he had produced 5000 liters of pineau, Robert Guerin went into selling bottles. Born in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, it seemed obvious to him to start selling his production on the local market in order to introduce this product to vacationers, delivering to his clients riding his Solex moped.
In the early 1960s, Robert Guerin’s children settled down and took over the family business; they developed the company. On the 1st of May, 1967, they founded the Société Puy Gaudin in partnership with their uncle and three other wine-growers attracted by the idea. This new organization allowed them to increase the value of their production by putting together technical means. During the first year, they produced 200 HL of Pineau.
As the new generations arrived, Puy Gaudin’s activity developed under the leadership of Zarif Youssofi, sales director since 1981. He put the company’s products on the large retail market, labeled as “Guerin Frères”, the name of the main brand. He also secured the whole commercialization of the bottle production.
New tools were implemented: first in Chenac in 1985, and a few years later in 2005 in Gémozac. Today, the Société Puy Gaudin is provided with modern and efficient implement, living up to its leader status among Pineau producers.
Vermouth Guerin is a new creation born out of the same original desire to promote and introduce Pineau des Charentes to the public. Crafted from a base of wine mixed with Pineau des Charentes and matured in Cognac casks, it brings a new and refreshing style as a vermouth. Their vision is for people to “Pineau differently,” using Guerin Vermouth as a low-ABV aperitif and as a component in their favorite cocktails.
