X Xarel Lo Vermell

At the end of the 20th century, the indigenous variety of Xarel·lo Vermell was about to disappear. Today, there less than 100 hectares in the world. All are located in the Penedès region, with 7 hectares planted at Nadal.
Aged in stainless steel tanks with bâtonnage, followed by a minimum of 6 months in bottle before release. A complex wine with aromas of stone fruit and hints of spices.
About the Producer
Nadal has old and deep roots in Catalunya. It was one of the six founders of Corpinnat, demanding extremely high standards for their sparkling wines. Can Nadal Boadella was founded in the early 16th century; passed from generation to generation, it never ceased to grow grapes and make wine, even during the most difficult years of the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), when part of the estate was expropriated to build an airfield.
Born in 1903, Ramon Nadal Giró recovered in 1941 the vineyard that the army had used. He built the cellar twenty meters below ground. The vineyards are principally planted with indigenous Penedès white grape varieties: Macabeu, Xarel.lo, Xarel.lo Vermell and Parellada. The vines, some of which are over 65 years old, produce well-balanced, quality grapes. Currently, Finca Nadal produces more grapes than it needs to cover its entire production output. This allows them to be very selective when choosing which ones to use for their wines.
