Sauvignon Blanc – Knight’s Valley
100% Sauvignon Blanc from Blau Vineyards, Knights Valley. Whole cluster pressed and fermented in concrete eggs. Flavors of grapefruit, ripe pear and lemongrass, with a nose of tropical fruit, coupled with great minerality and bright acidity. On the palate, ripe white peach, kiwi and pineapple give way to a balanced, crisp finish. Clean, wholly expressive of the varietal’s characteristics, with a lovely round mouth feel. 270 cases produced.
About the Producer
Paul McSharry, his father Gerry, and the accomplished winemaker Mark Herold fortuitously met before the harvest of 2009. They all believed that sourcing only the finest fruit from the very best vineyards in Napa Valley and using only 100% French Oak barrels would result in truly exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon wines. And so MAZE was born.
Gerry McSharry developed a love of wine, and especially fine wine, through a lifetime working in Media and developing his business into a world’s leading company. He became along the way a regular in many of London and the world’s finest restaurants, where he matured his passion for fine wines.
It was a very easy decision to team up with his son Paul to make high-quality hand crafted wines in California. The dream took substance when Mark Herold, the celebrated winemaker, agreed to be wine consultant to the fledgling venture. Mark co-founded Merus in 1998 and had quickly become one of Napa Valley’s rising stars among Cabernet producers. The eight released vintages of Merus all achieved top recognition.
Mark’s extraordinary skills and knowledge, allied to Gerry’s years of hands on company management and a distinguished team of support staff gave reality to intricate and complex wines.
