Grapes

Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot

50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard spreads over 23 ha of deep gravel soil. The vines average 40-50 year old, with a density of 9,000 plants/ha and yields around 40 hl/ha. The overall production is conducted through plot selection. The grapes are hand harvested at full ripeness. As a first selection in the vineyard, only the healthy bunches are picked. In the cellar, the grapes are handled with meticulous care with two sorting tables. Traditional thermo-regulated concrete vats are used for maceration and fermentation. Time is provided to ensure a gentle extraction with daily tasting to find the optimum equilibrium. 50% of the production undertakes a malolactic fermentation in new barrels. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, 45% new oak, 55% one year old, 12 months for the Merlot and 14 months for the Cabernet. 14% alcohol.

Deep ruby color. Intense nose with generous aromas of licorice and spice. Rich, dense, concentrated blackberry flavors with elegant tannins.

Decanter WWA 2022, Silver medal, 92/100

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Château Clauzet

The Cardon family purchased Château Clauzet in 2018, expressing the desire to maintain the identity of the single wine it produced and keep crafting it from specific plots to best express its personnality.

The vineyards are neighbors of Lafite and Cos d’Estournel and have very similar soils, deep gravel and gentle slopes thus providing good drainage.

The integration of Château Clauzet within the structure of Château La Haye allowed Lloyd Lippens and his father-in-law, Mr Cardon, to continue the adventure they started in 2012 in the St Estèphe vineyard.
