La Démarrante shows delicacy and purity, with cherry coulis and fresh peony notes. On the palate, it is both refreshing and juicy. With its electric red color, this wine is pure play and would work great as a chillable red for the summer. A true treat from the Beaujolais.

30% estate grapes, 70% purchased grapes from friends who share the same approach to viticulture. The Gamay Noir à jus blanc vines grows on granite and metamorphic diorite rock topped by a sandy-clay soil. The vineyard is located on the southern and eastern facing slopes of the Côte de Brouilly. The grapes are manually harvested; semi-carbonic maceration with whole bunches in order to obtain the maximum freshness in the wine. All precautions are taken to limit the handling of the grapes and of the wine in order to preserve all of its integrity. The wine is aged for 6 months in cement tanks and is bottled unfiltered with minimal sulfite added.

The name refers to the round of drinks offered by a bar at last call, to wish the patrons a good night.

About the Producer

Domaine Dupré Goujon is a collaborative project between Sébastien Dupré and Guillaume Goujon, started in 2012. Sébastien and Guillaume became friends in high school in Beaujolais, before separately finding their way to oenology. They reunited at the renowned Terrasses de Larzac estate of Domaine Montcalmès, working under Frédéric Pourtalié. While he was there, Sebastien gradually acquired parcels in the Côte de Brouilly. Eventually, he returned to Beaujolais and Guillaume made wine in Australia.

In 2015, they finally had the opportunity to realize their long-held dream of crafting great Beaujolais. They had enough vineyard - several hectares of mostly south-facing vines - to harvest and vinify their first wine. Even though they vinified each parcel separately, they decided to blend them and make a single cuvée. They looked for complete maturity; a long, gentle maceration (2-3 weeks) for finesse of tannins and then 12 months of aging in demi-muids barrels and an additional 6 months in tank before bottling. They released the 2015 in 2018. An impressive first effort and their subsequent releases are showing a very good hand. In the August 2022 Wine Advocate, William Kelley commented, "The 2021 and 2020s reviewed here show that the domaine's upward trajectory continues, as those used barrels are "broken in" and the vineyards are restored to balance. This is an estate to watch.”

Farming/vinification practices: Certified Organic. Sébastien and Guillaume work Biodynamically and Agroecologically, planting fruit trees in the vineyard and a year round cover crop of grasses that help diversify the ecosystem and maintain an equilibrium in the microclimate, thereby improving the soil quality. The wines are vinified in concrete and see two years' maturation, the first in old barrels from Rully's Domaine Dureuil-Janthail, the second in tank. All of the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered, with a nominal amount of sulfur added at bottling. Their cuvées reveal the nuances of the appellation, the diversity of the soils and exposures, and in the process recreate the identity of each plot.

"Guillaume Goujon of Domaine Dupré-Goujon, which focuses on the wines of the Cote-de-Brouilly cru, is also headed for fame. His wines now all spend one year in wooden casks and a second year in concrete tanks. That certainly  helped make the Domaine Dupré-Goujon Côte-de-Brouilly Lieu dit L’Héronde 2021 one of the outstanding wines of this challenging vintage. The deep aromas of violets, mandarin oranges and spices, plus the stunning concentration, really make it stand out in the crowd. Goujon also made one of the best dry whites Stuart has ever encountered in Beaujolais, the Domaine Dupré-Goujon Beaujolais-Villages Blanc Le Clos des Mûriers 2022.  The fascinating aromas of chamomile and fresh garden herbs are married to silky acidity and fine chalky minerality, giving the finish real charisma. The latter is a quality the region’s whites didn’t have before."
