Grapes Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot

73% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes come from a 15ha vineyard with deep alluvium gravel and clay-iron subsoil, planted with vines that average 36 year old. The overall production is conducted through plot selection. Grapes are mechanically harvested and multiple selections are conducted from the vineyard to the cellar, where the grapes are handled with meticulous care on two sorting tables.

Traditional concrete tanks are used for both the maceration and fermentation. The wine is then aged 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, 45% new, 45% second use, 10% third use. 13.5% alcohol. Deep red with a tinge of cherry. Nose of dense, dark berries. Tightly knit palate, with ample, elegant tannins.

About the Producer

The venerable Château de Bel-Air presides with stately elegance over 15 hectares of rolling vineyards in the exclusive Lalande de Pomerol region of Bordeaux. “Bel-Air” refers to the “good air” at the ideal elevation and exposure of the Château’s hillside vineyards, overlooking the Bardanne creek, which separates Lalande de Pomerol from Pomerol. Bel-Air only makes one cuvée. The domaine was bought in 2011 by Michel de Laet Derache, a private banker, and his wife Christel.

Farming practices: sustainable - no herbicides.
