ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Nadal
The Nadal family has been growing grapes and making wine in the Penedès since 1510. During the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), part of the estate was expropriated by the military. After the war, Ramon Nadal Giró recovered his family’s land, replanting it with indigenous varietals (Macabeu, Xarel.lo, Xarel.lo Vermell and Parellada) and building a cellar 70 feet underground. He decided to devote himself to quality sparkling wine production, starting with the 1943 vintage. Since that time, the Nadal family has always worked closely with the land; they are certified Organic, practice dry farming, and do all vineyard & winery work manually and with minimal intervention. Everything from the glass to the water they use is recycled.
In 2015, Nadal joined forces with 5 other producers (Recaredo, Llopart, Gramona, Torelló, & Sabaté i Coca) to launch the Corpinnat label. Corpinnat, which translates to “Heart of Penedès” in Latin, strives to produce the very finest Sparkling wines so the label requires manual harvesting, Organic viticulture, 100% estate production, and a minimum of 18 months of aging (meaning all wines qualify as Reserva). In 2019, the first bottles of Corpinnat were released with one glaring absence on their labels: nowhere did it say Cava. In leaving the D.O., they made a rigorous commitment to their terroir and dedication to producing excellent sparkling wines from the heart of Penedès.
