Grapes Merlot

95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. The vines are planted on clay, sand and limestone. The fruit is carefully sorted after harvest. Château Lacure is vinified and matured mostly in stainless steel tanks to ensure that the wine remains fresh and accessible. Due to the maturity of the fruit, maceration is carried out gently over two weeks with one full pumping over daily, so as not to extract harsh tannins. The key to its exceptional quality lies in its location: on the hills above the Dordogne River, nearby the finest sites of Fronsac, St-Emilion and Pomerol.

Château Lacure has a deep dark purple color, a soft texture and pleasing ripe Merlot aromas and flavors of dark plums, cherries and spice. 14.5% alcohol.

About the Producer

Château Lacure is a 12 hectare property located in the village of Saint-Romain- La Virvée, just outside the Fronsac appellation on the right-bank of Bordeaux. The vineyard’s clay-sand-limestone soil is ideal for ripening Merlot, which is the principal variety in Château Lacure. The average age of the vines is 30 years. It is owned by Bernard Equi , whose great-grandparents founded the estate in the 1920s. The name Lacure comes from a chapel used as a resting place for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago.

Farming practices: sustainable, following the practices of  “lutte raisonnée.” The vines are trained high to enhance ripening and prevent diseases, while grass is planted between the rows.
