About the Producer

Aleksander wines originate from S & G Estate, a family winery co-founded in 2009 by Goran Bjekovic and his eldest son Aleksander “Sasha” Vujacic - a two-time NBA Champion with the Los Angeles Lakers.

In Slovenia, Goran and his wife Ksenija played volleyball professionally, while Sasha was beginning his basketball career. The family left Slovenia in search of better opportunities and moved to Friuli, where Sasha signed a professional contract at the age of 15. Inspired by the rich, fruity wines of Livio Felluga, among others, Goran cultivated his passion for wine and began sharing it with Sasha. Together they hoped to one day make a wine of their own.

In 2009, while Sasha was helping the Lakers to what would become a championship season, Goran and Ksenija focused their time on finding the perfect piece of land where the family could realize their project : producing a unique Bordeaux blend that would embody both European and Californian characteristics. They found a 30-acre property in the El Pomar region of Paso Robles, CA. Today, it is home to more than 600 Mission olive trees and 13 acres of vineyards planted with Bordeaux varieties: 7 acres of Merlot, 3 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, one acre of Malbec, one acre of Cabernet Franc and one acre of Petit Verdot. The slopes surrounding the estate are known for their calcareous soil and Templeton gap breezes, which create the perfect conditions for grape growing. The property includes an olive oil making facility, a fully operational winery, a humidified barrel room, a private tasting room with a cigar lounge, and a pizza oven that is used for winemaker dinners and family gatherings.

The production, all from estate-grown grapes, is under 2,000 cases per year. It is divided between the white label line (nearly 80% of the production) and the more limited Reserve line - longer aging and usually a slightly higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend.
