86% Malbec, 11% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, vinified by parcel using both oxidative and reductive techniques.

Aging: A different program is used for each batch, combining French oak barrels of various sizes and ages, Italian ceramic vessels, and Austrian foudres. Aged for 20 months. Unfined and unfiltered. 14,4% Alc.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Raquis

A winemaker, a viticulturalist, and a winery president sit around a parrilla… What began as conversations about terroir, vineyards, and the future of Argentine wine grew into Raquis.

In 2022, three talented friends (Andrés Vignoni, Facundo Imagliazzo, & Ariel Nuñez Porolli) left a long tenure with Paul Hobbs to focus on the groundbreaking idea of making terroir-specific wines in the Uco Valley. They knew that the potential for Andean vineyards was much more than what they were seeing in the market.

The trio put together “the Raquis map”, a chart of Mendoza representing the best vineyard parcels. Through countless tastings and visits, they rigorously selected just 13 hectares, divided into 22 high-altitude microparcels. This extreme selection was based on the intersection of precise requirements, including soil characteristics, slope, altitude, and microclimate. In most cases, these are particular portions of rows, segmented for their unique potential. The team, led by Facundo Impagliazzo, does all of the viticulture themselves.

Every action in the vineyard and winery is highlights the essence of iconic Uco Valley micro-terroirs and historical vineyards of Luján de Cuyo with the utmost purity.

Raquis – About the Founders

“One of Argentina’s most exciting new projects” – Vinous

Raquis is the first winery in Argentina to dedicate its entire portfolio to specific terroirs, including Gualtallary, San Pablo, Chacayes, and Altamira. These are wines of finesse and personality that fully express their vineyard sites.

Farming practices: Their philosophy is rooted in a deep connection with the natural environment, prioritizing sustainable practices and a minimalist approach that allows each wine to transparently express its origin.  With a long-term vision, Raquis aims to preserve and highlight the biodiversity of its vineyards by implementing environmentally friendly agricultural techniques and promoting soil health. Additionally, the winery is committed to efficient and ecological processes, harmoniously integrating with the landscape.

Vinification practices: Andrés Vignoni vinifies each parcel separately using indigenous yeasts, adapting to the vintage and the unique characteristics of each site. These range from open fermentations with variable use of whole clusters to reductive winemaking with extended maceration periods.
