Rosé – Cabernet Franc
100% Cabernet Franc from 14 year old vines grown on alluvial soil (gravel and silty loam), drip irrigated if needed. Spur pruning and good fruit exposure produced clean, ripe fruit with good concentration. The grapes were harvested at optimum ripeness, destemmed and after a short period of soaking were transferred to a basket press. Clean juice was run off to a separate tank to ferment at cool temperatures to retain the fruit flavors and reduce phenolics or any bitterness. The wine was minimally fined and lightly filtered before bottling. Vibrant red fruits and pink grapefruit, round mouthfeel and refreshing acidity.
About the Producer
Paritua was established in 2003 and is owned by 5 shareholding families. The name is a tribute to the Paritua Stream, which meanders gently through the vineyard. Paritua means the meandering stream above the ancient river. The vineyard is planted over the historical riverbed of the nearby Ngaruroro River which flowed through pre the 1860s earthquake. It is a name that also acknowledges the connection with the land and the people of New Zealand.
The vineyards are located in the heart of Hawkes Bay, in the ‘Bridge Pa Triangle’ district - a premium winegrowing sub-region that extends over more than 2,000 hectares on the western side of the Heretaunga plains and includes the largest concentration of vineyards in Hawke’s Bay. The 53 hectares (130 acres) of vines were planted in a single-block in 2003, with 70% devoted to red varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec – and Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay completing the picture. Surrounded by hills, Paritua’s vineyard enjoys stony, free draining soils, long summers and crisp winters, which combine to create exceptional wines. Wines bearing the Paritua name are only produced only in outstanding vintages, whilst our Stone Paddock selection of wines are made every year using grapes grown on our own estate and carefully selected regional vineyards.
The development of the vineyard and winery infrastructure was a collaboration with leading New Zealand architects, Crosson Clarke Carnachan who understood the drive for bold architecture that truly embraces the landscape. Every design aspect was carefully considered - the winemaking operation had to be not only efficient, but also sustainable with the added requirement to sit gracefully in its environment.
Farming practices: the vineyard is 100% accredited by Sustainable Winegrowers of New Zealand (SWNZ), widely recognized as a world-leading sustainability program, one of the first to be established in the international wine industry. Paritua has also recently started down the organic certification track; they are in conversion to be certified as Organic by 2021. BioGro NZ are the Organic auditing body who they are working with to achieve this.
