ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Château Gaston Rena

Gaston Rena is a very small 2.4-hectare property located in the village of Reynats in Cissac-Médoc. The estate was created in 1991 by Daniel Gaston, an oenologist trained at the University of Bordeaux. His family has a long history in the Médoc: his grandfather was cellar master at Château Cissac for 25 years, and Daniel built the property little by little over the years. The château’s name is a combination of Daniel’s last name, GASTON, and the location, simplified to RENA. The estate produces around 12,000 bottles a year.

The vineyard is planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon (62%) and Merlot (33%), with small amounts of Carmenère and Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested by hand, with fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks and ageing in barrels, around 25% new each year.
