ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Barrigón

After 10 years of producing mezcal in Oaxaca, Xaime Niembro decided to pursue the vinous path in 2020. The Niembro family planted an organic vineyard in 2000 on clay soils in Querétaro at 6300’ elevation. Today, they practice regenerative agriculture on their 6 ha in Querétaro and 10 ha in Guanajuato.

Barrigón is one of the few organic and natural wine producers in Querétaro & Guanajuato. The name translates as paunchy, someone with a big belly. The name embraces the idea of enjoying life as it is: essentially endearing and kind of imperfect, and good wine is just that: an imperfect piece of art.

For the Barrigón team, each vintage is the reflection of what happened out in the field and the work put into making a wine with no pretenses. These are wines made for everyday life; for a Tuesday night with friends, drinking a glass by the pool or alongside a delicious meal.
