|Winemaker Alexandre Remy hails from Rennes, France. He holds a master’s degree in food science from the University of Montpellier. His desire to make wine took him to Marlborough, Victoria and Napa Valley.|
Sustainability: Alexandre is committed to sustainability, from the vineyards all the way to the labels. Starting with the 2015 vintage, all wines are bottled with Diam Corks, a company that not only has an amazing environmental policy and is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council®, but also guarantees closures that are cork taint free. For the vinification, Alexandre partners with wineries that are within 50 miles of where the grapes are grown. The barrels used are made from French oak staves but are assembled right here in the USA. Finally, Alexandre works exclusively with warehouses that support The Green Initiative Fund.
|100% Chardonnay. The first vintage was 2013. 80% of the fruit comes from Monterey (San Bernabe Vineyard) and 20% from the famous Durell Vineyard (Wente clone) in Sonoma Valley AVA. After reaching optimal ripeness, the Chardonnay clusters were harvested and gently pressed to preserve their aromatics. The juice was fermented 90% in barrels to enhance richness. The wine also completed malolactic fermentation in oak barrels (the wine made from Durell vineyard does not go through malo). To increase flavor complexity, 10% of the 2015 Oro Bello Chardonnay was fermented at a cooler temperature in stainless-steel tanks. This fraction adds fresher aromas such as lime and grapefruit, and it did not undergo secondary fermentation. The wine aged for 10 months on light selected lees in French oak barrels (30% new) to increase body, richness and complexity. 13.6% alcohol. 1287 cases produced. Vegan. |
