Covilalba winery is located near the center of Terra Alta in the hilltop town of Vilalba des Arcs, one of the highest areas in the region with vines up to 500 meters above sea level (Terra Alta means "high ground"). Covilalba was founded in 1960, and in 1969 began to bottle its own wine. Later on, major investment was undertaken to modernize the winemaking facilities, and to provide top quality French and American oak barrels for the controlled aging of the wines. |

Garnacha 100% Terra Alta is a promising DO constituted in 1972, that did recently put the focus on quality over quantity. It is situated in the mountains of South Catalonia, inland from Tarragona and close to the smaller region of DOCa Priorat. With its high altitude, distinctive micro-climate and ancient local grape varieties, it is an ideal region for making wine of great character. The grapes for the Faristol are hand harvested from vines that are at least 15 years old. Un-oaked, bright cherry red in color, the Faristol is a medium bodied juicy wine with notes of ripe red berries (raspberry, bigarreau cherry) and a fresh palate.
