| The winery is located in Murgia, Puglia in a beautiful monastery built in the 1700s. It is close to “Castel del Monte”. This castle, with its mysterious octagonal structure built in 1220, was used as a hunting residence by Frederick II (“Stupor Mundi”) of Swabia and its image is used on the Euro cent and as logo of the winery.
The monastery has been carefully restored by the Liantonio brothers to meet the requirements of a modern winery while preserving the beauty of the ancient building. The great cellar originating from the monastery is built into the rocks, it is surrounded by majestic stone walls each 5 feet thick. This cellar leads down to more underground chambers approximately 25 ft below the surface.
Torrevento currently owns an area of 100 hectares (250 acres). 27.0 Ha (67.5 acres) around the towns of Corato and Andra are in production. 41.0 Ha (102.5 acres) are cultivated around the town of Corato but not yet producing and 32.0 Ha (80 acres) are destined to be cultivated with various grape varietals in the near future. The company has agreements with some manufacturers, for the inspection and purchase of grapes from a further 11.0 Ha (27.5 acres). They produce only IGT and DOC wines that are very typical of the area. They firmly believe that there isn't just wine behind a good glass of wine, but also culture, history and tradition, That pride for a land expresses itself through the vines. The wines thus convey a distinctive identity. |
