Poggio Borbone > Tuscany > Italy
Poggio Barbone is a project of Marco Mazzarini, owner of the Chianti Classico Estate, Poggio Amorelli located in Castellina in Chianti. This estate is well known for its Tre Bicchieri awarded Super Tuscan called “Oracolo”. Poggio (hill) Barbone (of the homeless) is located at Magliano, approximately 10 miles south of the medieval village of Scansano (province of Maremma) on the road to Porto Ercole.

Morelino di Scansano
95% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo

Morellino is a synonym in Scansano for Sangiovese. Although the climate is a bit warmer than Chianti, well-made Morellino can be soft and pleasant, and a good value.

In 2000, approximately 15 acres were planted with Sangiovese and Merlot vines. The grapes are fermented on the skins and subsequently aged in large oak barrels for 6 months. Production is 20,000 bottles.

The wine has a lively ruby red color, a warm and pervasive aroma of cherry and blackberry jam. On impact, the wine is full and becomes prolonged in the mid palate. The crisp finish portends good aging potential.
