Scagliola > Piemonte > Italy
The Scagliola estate is located on a hill at San Siro in the town of Calosso. The estate is run by the brothers Maggiorino and Mario Scagliola and was started by their grandfather.

Mario is in charge of the winery. The previous generations were just growers selling their wines in bulk. From 1980 onwards, the Scagliola brothers started investing in facilities to bottle Moscato wines and subsequently added rotofermenters for red wines. The facilities are state of the art and new buildings and machinery are added continuously to allow for growth.

Maggiorino is in charge of the vineyards. Fertilizers and chemicals are used in accordance with CE 2078 - A1. Treatments against threats to the health of the grapes are based on the particular conditions in each of the fields and the meteorological conditions at the time and are reduced to the necessary minimum. Fertilization is based on replenishment only and within the maxima of the regulations. The winery currently cultivates barbera, brachetto, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, dolcetto, merlot and moscato grapes.
Barbera d'Asti "Frem"
Gambero Rosso: due bicchiere. “Il cane frem” means the dog is pointing. This Barbera is “Frem”, well focused, energetic.

Moscato "Primo Bacio"
The wine maker says this sweet sparkler reminds him of his first kiss, “Primo Bacio.”

Moscato d'Asti "Volo di Farfalle"
“Flight of the Butterflies” a vineyard selection of the ripest grapes.

Brachetto
100% Brachetto, a grape that produces a truly distinctive red wine that is a treasure to behold but seldom seen outside of Italy.

Brachetto is grown in the hills of the DOCG Acqui in the Piemonte region in northwestern Italy. The one used for this wine comes from a one-hectare vineyard near the town of Calosso in the neighbourhood of Asti.

Low in alcohol (around 6%) and slightly frizzante (sparkling), Brachetto is famous for its light and elegant body and heavily perfumed foam (strawberries, cherries and raspberries).

Production is low, so this highly sought after dessert wine is hard to find.

Delicately sweet but not sticky, this is a particularly good match with soft cheeses.

Brachetto is also known as the Braquet grape of southern France where together with Cinsault it makes very nice rosés around the city of Nice on the Cote d'Azur.
