Neumayer > Traisental > Austria
Ludwig Neumayer is regarded by many as the best producer in Austria's Traisental region, an area just south of the Wachau. He was named Austrian winemaker of the year in 1996 in the Fallstaff Wineguide and has only continued to improve over the last decade. The Traisental region is noted for its complex geology. In the East, towards the Danube, deep layers of clay soil predominate. In the West, towards the Wachau, we find the classic prehistoric stony soils, known as granulite. In the area round Inzersdorf there is a narrow transitional zone between these two formations where the soil consists of a poor chalky conglomerate. This geological variety characterizes the subtle nuance of Neumayer's line of wines including: Gruner Veltliner, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Weissburgunder.

Cuvée vom Stein
The core of this special bottling is a field blend of old vine growth (nearly 60 years). Ludwig then adds small lots of other varietals to make a final blend that is extremely aromatic and complex.

A blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Weissburgunder, (Pinot Blanc), Riesling, and Gruner Veltliner. Actual percentages in the final blend vary from year to year and not all grapes are always used.
