Maine-Gazin is planted with 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines (7.5 hectares) are planted on the best hilltops of chalky clay of Blaye, facing the Gironde. They average 40 years and produce wines of exceptional concentration. All grapes are hand-harvested at optimum ripeness. This is a crucial factor when seeking to create a perfectly balanced wine. Once vinified, the wine is aged in the best French oak barrels. Jean-Luc Thunevin calls this superb vineyard the Petrus of Blaye. Thierry Germain, owner of “cult” Loire winery Domaine des Roches Neuves, oversees the winemaking for his sister who owns this estate. |

| 1er Côte de Blaye-Livenne |
100% Merlot.
Unique microclimate, perfect for producing exceptional wines. The grapes are fermented in vats for 6 weeks then matured, still in vats, for 8 to 9 months depending on the vintage.
Tasting Notes: Deep red, limpid color, with a scent of soft fruits, jam and toast, which is an expression of great maturity. The nose is dark and brooding with enticing aromas of blackcurrant, plum, cedar and minerals. The flavors are equally complex and dense, with satin-smooth tannins and considerable length.
Great with red meat and cheese, Chateau Maine Gazin can easily age for 5 to 6 years and is best decanted one hour before being served.
