| Poppy is a partnership of a 6 vineyard owners from the Russian River down through Santa Barbara, guaranteeing high quality and consistent pricing. The wines show acidity & structure, with vibrant forward fruit. Eric Lauman is the briliant winemaker behind these wines. Eric was the winemaker for many of the cuvees at Bonny Doon and was the head winemaker at Edna Valley. The secret to these wines is the finesse obtained from great, cool-climate fruit and a restrained hand in the winemakeing process including very little new barrel use. The resulting wines have crunchy, fresh, pure fruit flavors with length and varietal impact. |

| 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 4% Malbec The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes come from coastal vineyards located in the Paso Robles appellation and enjoy a long growing season. The Merlot and Malbec used for blending come from the cooler Monterey Region. The grapes are cold soaked for approximately 24 hours to extract a small amount of color and tannin before adding the yeast and beginning the fermentation. The goal is to extract a generous amount of tannin without causing the wine to become bitter. Post fermentation, the wine is aged in tank and French Oak barrels and the two lots are rotated mid season. Tasting Notes: Ripe cherry and plum flavors, concentrated but soft tannins. Pair with dishes more on the savory side. This wine is designed to drink well within two years of its vintage date however it will be at its best starting around 2010. |
