FRANKEN

This baroque family estate was built in the years 1710 to 1712. Ten generations have already been involved in vine growing on the steep vineyards of Randersacker near Wuerzburg. The cultivated area is about 17.9 hectares. The warm shell limestone soil give the wine its special characteristics.
Variety of grapes: According to tradition, the main vine is Silvaner, followed by Mueller-Thurgau, Riesling, Scheurebe and Rieslaner. Some of the present Silvaner vines are 25 to 40 years old. Bacchus, which is very popular in our part Franconia, should be mentioned as well as our red wine-varieties Spätburgunder (Pinot noir) and Domina.
Nature: The vineyards are cultivated by natural methods. A computerized weather station within the vineyards helps to record the micro-climate exactly. By means of these data you can precisely calculate the infection pressure of mycosis and its threshold of damage to the vines. This way the use of plant protection can be minimalized. The vineyards are being cultivated according to the ecological rules of VDP (association of German quality estates). The grape harvesting is done very carefully and selectively by individual hand-picking.
Quality: The winemaking is traditional, but in a modern style. Wooden oak casks and stainless steel tanks are used for wine cultivating. 60% of the wines are cultivated "dry", about 20% "halfdry" and 20% of the finest production consists of aristocratic high-class wines of late vintage and noble selection. The most important steps during the last few years were the restructuring of the vineyards and the construction of the new estate situated at the bottom of the wine-growing hill Sonnenstuhl ("sun chair"). There winemakers hold onto tradition of producing elegant white wines of outstanding quality. For the future, they intend to expand and aquire additional vineyards in excellent sites. Furthermore, we are planning to extend the cultivation in “barrique barrels” and continue to develop the high quality of excellent red wines. Their main task, though will be to continue the consequent refinement of white wines. This view of management is reconfirmed by highly successful competitions in wine tastings and tests. Our wines have won numerous prizes from regional awards up to the federal state and international levels.

Member of - TRIAS – Terroir, Passion, Genuss.
TRIAS is an organization of five friends who all belong to the VDP (a group of Germany´s best private wineries) and produce wines on all three franconian soil-types (red sandstone, shell-lime-stone and keuper) which go back to the age of "TRIAS" almost 225 million years ago. They named their quality alliance after this stone formation “TRIAS”, because they have dedicated themselves to produce premium quality wines which show the individual terroir. Every wine with the TRIAS-Logo represents this philosophy.
