Marc Brocot lives in the picturesque village of Marsannay, the northernmost village of the Cotes de Nuits. He cultivates 5 hectares of vines in Marsannay and in Gevrey. Up to 1988, he sold his wines in bulk to negociants, but has since estate- bottled his entire production. The prescient Robert Parker, in his 1990 book on Burgundy, already noted Brocot's "rather amazing (wine)...which should be highly sought after by those buyers of Burgundy who are looking for a great value. It is a very full bodied, robust, rich wine....Brocot makes some of the best Marsannay that one will ever taste." This statement is even more valid almost 20 years on. Marc Brocot is a producer well worth discovering for his serious wines that represent the most outstanding values from the Cotes de Nuits.

Bourgogne Blanc Pinot Beurot

Brocot's rarely seen and fascinating Bourgogne Blanc Pinot Beurot (the local name for Pinot Gris) comes from 20 year old vines at the base of the Marsannay slope on a stony-sandy soil. It has a lush texture with flavors of ripe pear and spice. It is said that the wine's buttery character lead to the grape being called "Beurot" in Burgundy. Like the Marsannay Blanc, the Beurot is also vinified in cask, but Brocot uses acaia wood in place of oak because acacia imparts a floral note to the wine and is more neutral than oak, which is better suited to Chardonnay.

Marsannay Blanc Les Champs Salomon

This is one of two whites that Brocot makes, the other being Pinot Beurot. Planted in 1987, the vines grow on an east-facing slope with ideal limestone soil at 300 meters altitude. It is vinified entirely in oak casks, 1/3 of which are new each year. The Champs Salomon has an incredible floral nose leading to a palate of ripe tree fruits and a bracing minerality. Only 75 cases/year produced. This is classic, elegant white Burgundy at its best.

Marsannay Rouge - Les Echezots

It is quite simply the best value in the Cotes de Nuits, packed with dark fruit and notes of limestone terroir. A more select bottling than his Marsannay Rouge, Les Echezots is made from 45 year old vines that grow at the relatively high altitude of 300 meters. The situation provides a warm microclimate and ensures that the vines are well ventilated, thus reducing the need for anti-rot treatments. The wine is matured in one third new oak.
Robert Parker describes the wine as “rather amazing...(it) should be highly sought after by those buyers of Burgundy who are looking for a great value. It is a very full bodied, robust, rich wine.... Brocot makes some of the best Marsannay that one will ever taste.”
Matt Kramer agrees, noting that “one of the best producers (in Marsannay) at the moment is Domaine Marc Brocot.”
The Marsannay Les Echezots offers complex Pinot Noir flavors and dark fruits and sous-bois notes. It represents exceptional value from the Cotes de Nuits.

Marsannay Rouge - Vieilles Vignes

This bottling comes from the very oldest vines on the property, two parcels of 50 - 55 year old vines, located at midslope, below Echezots. The soil here is richer and the Vielles Vignes is lush and chewy; the intense, deep brambly fruit is perfectly offset by lively acidity. One third of the juice is matured in new, 225 litre oak barrels and two thirds in neutral 600 litre casks to favor the expression of the Pinot Noir's complex flavors of dark fruits, sous-bois notes, and unmistakable Cotes de Nuits pedigree. Brocot produces just 125 cases of this beautifully complex, Cotes de Nuits Pinot Noir each year.
