COTE CHALONNAISE - RULLY
Rully is the first appellation in the Cote Chalonnaise as one heads south from Beaune. The region is renowned for its delicious Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines which represent excellent value. The region is much more rustic than the Cote d'Or, and the vineyards and wineries are scattered in and around the hillsides. This helps to explain why the domaines, such as Dury, are relatively unknown outside France.
The Dury estate was founded in 1954 and presently comprises 16 hectares of vineyards in the Rully appellation. Jacques Dury is now aided by his son at the family's rambling winery and cellars. Dury owns eight different parcels, of which three are Premiere Crus. The wines produced are 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir.
The grapes are hand harvested and fermented naturally in cuves without the addition of any yeasts. Half of the wine is then aged in cuves, the other half in barriques of ages between one and three years. After six months, the wine is assembled and bottling takes place in June.
